TUMPAT, May 31 — Beginning July 1, the police will station personnel from three of its units, namely the Marine Police, the General Operations Force (GOF) and the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) to increase security in urban areas nationwide.

Internal Security and Public Order Department director Datuk Seri Zulkifli Abdullah said the three teams would carry out crime-prevention patrols.

“They will be stationed in big cities based on a study of the crime index in the area. This is among the efforts of the police to strengthen our hand in containing crimes in major cities.

“It is also aimed at increasing the presence of police personnel on the field,” he told reporters after a working visit and a breaking of fast ceremony with the Region Three Marine Police and the Southeast GOF Brigade at the Pengkalan Kubor Marine Police base here today.
