KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 ― Up to 64 parcels of land belonging to the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) were sold for profit and fewer than half were used for public or affordable housing since 2013, DAP's Lim Lip Eng alleged today.
The incumbent Segambut MP, who will stand in Kepong for the 14th general election, said the land deals were all made under the stewardship of caretaker Federal Territories Minister, Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor.
“We found that only 33 of the 64 land deals were allocated for housing,” Lim told a press conference at the party's election operation centre in Kepong.
“And from the 33, only some were allotted for public or affordable housing.”
Details of the projects were obtained from a parliamentary written reply from the FT Ministry, which Lim received on Monday.
The reply listed all land deals involving the FT Ministry, DBKL and its private investment arm, Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan.
Based on the information from the written reply, some of the public housing projects listed also consisted of mixed developments in which units were sold at market rates.
Lim said DBKL should be focusing on projects that benefited the public instead of generating profit.
“I want Tengku Adnan to explain if the land deals were all done through open tender.”
Lim said he would report the matter to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission if the caretaker minister fails to respond by April 28.
