KOTA KINABALU, April 23 ― A former state Barisan Nasional secretary and assistant minister Datuk Karim Bujang is slated to make a return to politics after a five year absence.
Karim, who is also former Bongawan assemblyman and former Kimanis Umno division deputy chief is believed to have joined Parti Warisan Sabah when rumours and a photo of him emerged, wearing the party’s logo and posing with two other possible Warisan candidates.
“If all goes to plan, he will be contesting the Kimanis parliamentary seat, against caretaker foreign minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman, if the latter is defending his seat” said a party source.
The source said that Karim has been meeting up with Warisan party leaders over some time and has been supportive of their cause.
“All will be revealed by the party president soon,” he said.
Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal is expected to announce the party’s candidate list on Friday, April 27.
Karim was a Bongawan assemblyman from 1999 to 2013 until he was replaced by Datuk Mohamad Alimin in GE13.
Bongawan is one of two state constituencies under the Kimanis Parliamentary seat in Sabah’s west coast with a Muslim bumiputera majority.
After he was dropped from the seat, Karim has been laying low politically but is serving as Sabah Ports Sdn Bhd chairman.
According to sources, he has been venturing into his own businesses including a birds nest farm.
When contacted, Karim decline to comment.
