JOHOR BARU, March 2 — A Johor assemblyman yesterday urged the federal Cabinet to look into the involvement of top Umno leaders in the Penang undersea tunnel project to ensure transparency in ongoing investigations.

Skudai assemblyman Dr Boo Cheng Hau urged both Tourism and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong to inquire at the next cabinet meeting as to whether the issue of excessive consultancy fees paid for the Penang undersea tunnel project involved any cabinet minister.

“If any minister or their proxies are involved in the scandal, both should request the minister concerned to step-down immediately in order to ensure no executive interference on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigations on the case,” he said during DAP’s Gelang Patah parliamentary Kopitiam Forum at Kampung Baru Skudai here yesterday.

Earlier today, Umno lawmaker Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim lodged a police report in Shah Alam regarding allegations that he received a bribe from Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd.

He said he was a victim of “name-dropping” and denied ever having any dealings with the company.
