PUTRAJAYA, March 2 — Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Azmin Ali and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should watch that they do not say anything defamatory when making statements about the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Its chief commissioner Tan Sri Dzulkifli Ahmad advised both men to be careful when speaking about cases handled by the MACC so as to ensure independence and professionalism, The Star daily reported.

“I ask for these two leaders to be careful when making statements regarding cases that are being investigated by the MACC.

“This is to ensure whatever they say in public does not have elements of criminal defamation,” Dzulkifli was quoted saying at the launch of the Women’s Anti-Corruption Movement here yesterday.

He also clarified that MACC officers had not conducted a search on Azmin’s office over its investigation into the Ijok land matter as alleged, adding that repeating such a claim was defamatory.

Controversy over Ijok came about after Barisan Nasional strategic communications director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan demanded Azmin explain why the land was handed to two companies Mujur Zaman Sdn Bhd and LBCN Development Sdn Bhd in 2016.
