KUALA LUMPUR, March 1 — Former DAP vice-chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim today stressed that his statement on a secret pact between former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and DAP adviser Lim Kit Siang is true and justified.

The statement is on a secret pact that the former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Tun Mahathir was promised the Prime Minister post if the opposition wins the 14th general election.

Tunku Abdul Aziz, 84, who was continuing his evidence in the High Court here said he was very sure with his source before writing the statement and his writing was justified.

“I am very sure and use the appropriate judgment when writing the statement,” he said when cross-examined by counsel Mohamed Haniff Khatri Abdulla, who represented Mukhriz.

When questioned by Mohamed Haniff that the statement on the secret pact was made without any grounds and strong evidence, in fact it was taken from the blog of Raja Petra Kamaruddin, an individual who was charged under the Sedition Act and had fled to the United Kingdom.

Tunku Abdul Aziz did not agree that Raja Petra’s blog was the only source he had taken when writing the statement.

“I also obtain sources for the posting by reading newspapers, blogs and Facebook sites everyday.

“They are the basis for my writing and I made inferences to them. It is a view and I am not an individual who easily makes a mistake,” said Tunku Abdul Aziz, as a defendant in the suit.

Meanwhile, Tunku Abdul Aziz said his witness statement was not intended to insult or degrade Mukhriz but was acting on the belief the people’s interest should be given priority.

“I believe in sharing true and important information linked to the leadership of the country with the people as they should know when choosing a calibre leadership for the country,” he said.
