TANAH MERAH, Dec 4 — The improving flood situation in Kelantan following the fine weather over the last two days has seen many evacuees returning to their homes.
A Bernama survey found that most victims were busy cleaning up their homes filled with mud and dirt, and washing clothes and other items.
A victim, Nor Raida Mustapha, 36, said she left the relief centre at Kampung Padang Kijang Multipurpose Hall, here yesterday evening after being informed that flood waters in her housing area had begun to recede.
“Back in my house, I kept cleaning the mud because if it’s not done, it is difficult to remove the dry mud,” she said when met here today.
A resident of Kampung Kubang Rambutan, Rantau Panjang, Hasnah Hassan, 56, when met said the water level around her house began to recede this morning.
“The water had risen up to the chest level in the living room of my house damaging a lot of things as I was unable to move the furniture quickly enough. The carpet too was covered in mud,” she said.
The survey also found that many residents, particularly in low-lying areas were wary of a possible second wave of floods following the monsoon season which is expected to last until March. — Bernama
