KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — Police should not be overzealous with groups seeking to meet public officials, Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) said today.

The party also submitted a memorandum to Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Fuzi Harun to ask that his officers show restraint at a proposed meeting between the Pahang mentri besar and Cameron Highlands residents on December 12.

“We do not want a repeat of an incident five years ago where several of our people were arrested after they loitered outside Wisma Sri Pahang following a cancelled appointment with the MB," PSM Cameron Highlands secretary Suresh Kumar said outside Bukit Aman today.

He said this was because the group may opt to stay at the venue until the MB agrees to meet with them over land issues there.

Bukit Aman corporate communications department officers Assistant Superintendent Norhafizah Mohd Yusak and Sub-Inspector Megat Nizar received the memorandum on behalf of the IGP.

On July 10, 2012, 31 people including five children were picked up by police and spent the night in lockup. They were subsequently released the next day with no further action taken against them.
