In a statement here today, the Royal Malaysian Navy said the boat had sunk 53 nautical miles northwest of Pangkor Island.

“The boat owner and his crew were rescued by a passing boat while KD Selangor, which was located 54.4 nautical miles south of the incident site was ordered to go to the area to keep watch over the fishing boat while waiting for it to be towed back to Pantai Remis,” the statement said.

KD Selangor arrived at the scene at 11.20am and at the time, the sea was choppy with winds blowing at 23 knots per hour.
