IPOH, Nov 24 — A new airport planned for Perak will probably be located at Bota or Lambor Kanan in the Perak Tengah district, the state government said today.
State Public Transport Committee chairman Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon (Barisan Nasional — Chenderiang) said the state government had set aside 4,169ha land for the project.
“Malaysian Resources Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRCB) is currently conducting a feasibility study on the matter,” he said.
Speaking to reporters at the sidelines of state assembly here today, Dr Mah said accounting firm KPMG, which had been appointed by MRCB as the project consultant, was in the process of completing the final draft report.
“The report will then be presented to the Transport Ministry’s committee meeting before it is presented to the Economic Council chaired by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak,” added Dr Mah.
Kepayang assemblyman Nga Kor Ming of DAP had earlier in the state assembly alleged that the state had failed to apply for a new airport.
Nga told the House that a reply from Transport Minister Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai in Parliament explained that a private company had applied to build a new airport.
“Will the company apply if it was not sanctioned by the state?” Dr Mah asked, in reply.
