KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 — MCA has cast political differences aside to help provide disaster relief aid to flood victims in DAP-led Penang as well as to victims in Kulim in neighbouring Kedah.
Its vice-president Datin Paduka Chew Mei Fun who heads the party’s crisis relief squad was reported saying a team will be despatched after its 64th annual general meeting here today, The Star Online reported.
“I urge our members from Kedah, Penang and Perak to join and help,” she was quoted telling delegates earlier during the AGM.
“The people in Penang may have given up on MCA, but MCA will not give up on its people,” she reportedly added.
Continuous heavy rainfall for 15 hours straight from 2pm yesterday has caused widespread devastation in the northwestern island state.
Four people have died in the floods that covered some 80 per cent of the state and cut electricity supply earlier this morning.
However, the waters have started receding and concerted effort by both state and federal agencies have helped clear many roads of fallen trees.
