KUALA LUMPUR, June 29 — PAS will not win five states in the next general election as it might not even retain Kelantan, said DAP's Lim Kit Siang.

Lim suggested the leadership of PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang could lead the Islamist party to lose its stronghold state just as it lost Terengganu in Election 2004.

“Hadi boasts that he wants PAS to win five states in the next general election,” he wrote in a statement.

“Under Hadi’s leadership, PAS will not be fighting the 14th general election to win the five states of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, Kedah and Selangor but to fight for its political life as to whether it could retain power in Kelantan State Government which it had captured since 1990!”

DAP and PAS had been allies in the defunct Pakatan Rakyat pact, but turned hostile over their disagreements over Islamic law.

The next general election must be held no later than August 2018.
