KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — In an effort to improve transit connectivity, Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) through KTM Komuter today launched the oBike station-less bicycle sharing service which gives commuters the freedom to ride from or to the stations.
Commuters can gain access to the bicycle service from various locations by using the oBike application at the rate of RM1 per 15 minutes.
KTMB Komuter Services general manager Khair Johari Ishak said apart from promoting a healthy lifestyle, this could be the preferred mode of transportation for commuters on their first and last leg of their journeys.
“With this service, commuters can choose to cycle to the nearest KTM station before continuing their trip on the rail service or other public transportation.
“Indirectly, this bicycle sharing platform will encourage more people to use public transport,” he said at the launch of the service at the Subang Jaya KTM Station near here.
Khair Johari said the Subang Jaya station had been chosen as the pilot project before the service could be extended to other stations.
“We are identifying stations which are close to universities, colleges and tourist attractions as the KTM Komuter service is popular among students,” he said. — Bernama
