GEORGE TOWN, April 5 ― Claiming to have new “disturbing” information, Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng announced today his administration will sue the Election Commission (EC) in protest of its delimitation exercise.

He said the state government sent in a first objection to the EC on April 4 and will file a second complaint before the EC’s given deadline for objections.

“After submitting that, we realised that there is new shocking information about the redelineation exercise, so we will send in a second round of objection before April 7,” he told reporters at his office today.

He declined to disclose the information for the time being, citing the absence of state executive councillor Datuk Abdul Malik Abul Kassim from the state.

“I will wait for Malik to be back first before we reveal this new shocking information,” he said, adding that Malik in now in Kuala Lumpur.

Lim also said the state will immediately proceed to file a lawsuit against the election regulator after that, without waiting for its response to its objections.

“We will not wait for the hearings, we will file a suit based on the additional disturbing information we have received,” he said, adding that he will represent the Penang government in its legal challenge to the EC.

In his objection filed on April 4, Lim claimed that the EC's failure to conduct any redelineation exercise in Penang was unconstitutional and did not address malapportionment issues in the state.

“The failure to conduct delimitation exercise in Penang had caused the process to be unconstitutional and illegal in Penang and indirectly, in Malaysia,” he alleged then.
