KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 23 — PAS members nationwide were requested to participate in a “solat hajat” ritual this evening, ahead of president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang’s Shariah Bill’s possible tabling tomorrow.
The call was made by Marang PAS — where Abdul Hadi is MP — in a poster delivered on its Facebook page today, for the special prayer to request wishes, after the daily Maghrib prayer.
This comes as several Islamist groups also plan to hold a rally in front of the Parliament tomorrow morning in support of Hadi and the Bill.
Among them will be a coalition of 500 Islamic groups called Ummat lead by Aminuddin Yahaya, the deputy president of controversial Islamists Ikatan Muslimin Malaysia (Isma).
Another group will be led by pro-Islamic scholar group Geng Ustaz, lead by PAS central working committee member Norazli Musa.
“This historic moment is the result of a good cooperation and solid understanding in the name of Islam in the effort to uphold the religion of Islam and its institutions in this country,” Norazli said on the group’s Facebook page.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi yesterday had said that Abdul Hadi would table for a second time a tweaked version of his initial proposed amendments to the Shariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 this week in Parliament.
Hadi tabled his private member’s Bill for the first time in the last Parliament meeting seeking to improve the Shariah courts and pave way for hudud implementation in Kelantan.
The current limit for Shariah punishments are a fine of RM5,000, a jail term of three years and six strokes of rotan.
