PETALING JAYA, Nov 22 — A policeman was injured after he shot, believed by an African man, in Jalan Persiaran Industri, Bandar Sri Damansara here today.
In the 6pm incident, the policeman with the rank of Lance Corporal, known as Syarom (only one name available), from the Sri Damansara Patrol Car Unit (MPV) was shot in the left thigh.
According to a police spokesman, he was rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.
He said Syarom and his colleague were on a crime-prevention patrol when they spotted a suspicious-looking white Perodua Myvi.
“The policemen pursued the Myvi for about two kilometres. The Myvi collided with several cars in the bid to elude the police patrol vehicle.
“Syarom was shot when he tried to chase a suspect after their getaway car stopped at a traffic light junction in the area,” he said.
He said the three African men managed to escape.
A resident who only wanted to be known as Mun said she saw the suspects hastily running off leaving their car by the road side.
“I also heard gunshot and saw a big African man running away before the police arrived,” she said.
Petaling Jaya District deputy police chief Supt Mohd Ali Thamby, when contacted, confirmed the incident, saying further investigations were being conducted. — Bernama
