PETALING JAYA, Nov 19 — A video of an armed robbery yesterday at a jewellery store in a Puchong hypermarket has gone viral on social media.

In the three-minute long video shot by a witness, four individuals wearing bright safety vests and motorcycle helmets could be seen rushing about inside the shop, smashing glass as the fifth person stood on the lookout.

Angry yells of “Faster lah!” were heard several times, presumably the robbers urging each other or the shop employees.

The video ended with a close-up of the jeweller’s shop after the robbers had escaped, its two front display cabinets completely smashed and the seats for patrons upturned.

Two shaken female employees were within, one patting her colleague comfortingly on the back as a security guard stood behind them.

A police source has confirmed that the robbery took place at 11.07am yesterday in Poh Kong Diamond and Gold at Tesco Puchong Hypermarket, involving six men, three of whom were armed with iron hammers.

The sixth individual not seen in the video is believed to have been driving the getaway vehicle, a silver Toyota WISH whose licence plate is yet to be identified.

“The security guard present was not armed, and there were no customers inside the jeweller’s at the time of the incident. The losses are still being estimated but early investigations have found the suspects absconded with at least eight jewellery trays,” said the source, adding that the gang robbery falls under Section 395 of the Penal Code, which stipulates a penalty of 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping.
