KAMPAR, Sept 25 — A woman was seriously injured when a rope she used to abseil Gunung Anak Gua Tempurong Sahom near here, snapped and caused her to fall seven metres.

The 25-year-old victim sustained a broken right hand and injuries to the face, hands and legs.

Firemen used a stretcher to bring her down the hill before sending her to the Kampar Hospital, said Kampar Fire and Rescue Department chief, Meor Mohd Ali Meor Hussien.

He said the victim was taking part in a hill-climbing programme, together with three women and a man when the incident occurred at 11.58am.

“There is a route going down the hill, requiring the use of a rope. The woman’s four friends abseiled safely using the rope, but it broke when it was the victim’s turn.

“Perhaps, the rope was an old rope,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He said firemen took some time to reach the location of the incident as the address given was inaccurate and the place was quite remote. — Bernama
