KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15 — A Defence Ministry clerk who caused an uproar when he kicked a woman two months ago pleaded guilty to a similar offence here today.
Magistrate Ahmad Solihin Abd Wahid sentenced Marmi Zabrin Mian, 33, to three months in jail for kicking Shakira Mohd Khalid, 28, a secretary in Bukit Aman, in the back for no apparent reason.
He had, in the earlier incident, kicked a Bank Negara employee on the nearby pedestrian bridge. His action was caught on closed circuit television camera and the footage went viral, sparking outrage among netizens.
Marmi committed the latest offence at the connection tunnel from Jalan Cenderasari to Dayabumi here at 5.30pm last Tuesday. He was charged under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of one year and a fine.
During mitigation, Marmi, who was unrepresented, appealed to the court to reduce the sentence because he was a “public servant”.
Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Zikri Jaafar urged the court to jail the accused because he was a repeat offender and “you just cannot go around kicking people for no reason”. — Bernama
