KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 10 — The Home Ministry, with the cooperation of the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim), is constantly monitoring reading materials on sale to ensure that they do not contain elements of violence.

Home Ministry Secretary of the Publications Control and Quranic Text Division, Alias Mamat, said today reading materials with elements of violence would be referred to Jakim for inspection and subsequent ban.

“Reading materials sold in the country will have to abide by the country’s laws and respect the sensitivities.

“Not all articles in a book may contain elements of violence. These will be filtered thoroughly to make sure they will not be detrimental to the country’s peace,” he told Bernama.

Alias was asked to comment on the allegation by the Malaysia Ahli Sunnah Wal Jammah Organisation (Aswaja) that reading materials with elements of violence were sold openly nationwide.

Yesterday, the Home Ministry banned four books containing elements which contradicted true Islamic teachings and presented inaccurate information on the country’s security institutions. — Bernama
