PETALING JAYA, Sept 2 ― Participants of the Run for National Unity are invited to take part in the KL Car Free Morning on Sunday to get themselves in shape for the event on September 16.
OCBC Bank (Malaysia) chief executive officer Ong Eng Bin extended the invitation yesterday as he felt it was a good opportunity for the run’s participants to prepare themselves.
“This is a great platform for them to train and prepare themselves physically as the run will be held in two weeks’ time,” he said.
“They can either take the 7km route which passes through the Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle or the shorter 5km route.”
OCBC is the title sponsor of KL Car Free Morning, which is held every first and third Sunday of the month. OCBC also provides 200 bicycles on a first come, first serve basis.
Ong said the bicycles were very popular.
“You have to be there early to grab one. Usually by 6.30am, they will all be taken up.”
OCBC Bank yesterday handed a sponsorship of RM20,000 to Run for National Unity organisers. All nett proceeds will be given as scholarships to deserving students.
“Providing scholarships to these students is very important to help shape the future of the country. I believe through education, it will also encourage unity,” Ong said.
Run for National Unity is organised by HELP University, with Malay Mail as its media partner.
The university’s vice-chancellor and president co-founder Datuk Dr Paul Chan said the university also promoted unity through various activities.
“We have community engagement programmes where everyone from different races, religions or backgrounds come together to help those in need, no matter what background,” he said.
Run for National Unity registration can be done at the Department of Students Affairs, HELP University, Jalan Semantan 1, Bukit Damansara or at Federal Territory, Kuala Lumpur Athletic Association office, 2nd floor, Olympic Council of Malaysia building in Jalan Hang Jebat.
