KUANTAN, July 9 — Pahang recorded 706 road accident cases in 10 days of Ops Selamat 9/2016 which began on June 29.
The number is a decline of 0.8 per cent or six cases, compared to 712 in the same period last year.
State Police Contingent Headquarters’ investigation and traffic enforcement chief, Supt Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said road accident death also dropped to 15 cases or 28.6 per cent from 21 last year.
“The fatality rate dropped by one case or 4.3 per cent, that is, 22 cases compared to 23 cases in the same period last year,” he told reporters after a visit and traffic inspection at the Gambang toll plaza here today.
He said Kuantan recorded the highest number of road accidents in the 10 days of operation with 210 cases followed by Bentong (117), and Temerloh (101).
Meanwhile, 525 cases of road accidents were recorded in Negri Sembilan in eight days of Op Selamat 9/2016. Seremban recorded the highest number with 248 cases.
State Public Order and Traffic chief Supt Dali Wahid said six of the nine road deaths were recorded in Seremban.
“Based on statistics, there is an increase of three cases compared to Op Selamat 7/2015, carried out in the same period.
“Nilai recorded the second highest number with 90 cases followed by Jempol (39), Kuala Pilah (38), Port Dickson (36), Tampin (32), Rembau (31) and Jelebu (11).
“For road accident death, Tampin, Jempol and Jelebu recorded one case each,” he told a media conference here today.
Dali said the number of summonses issued throughout the operation for various offences among them, driving without a licence and expiry of road tax, was 3,827. — Bernama
