KUALA LUMPUR, April 25 ― LC Restaurant, the famous Penang nasi kandar outlet formerly known as “Line Clear”, today warned customers not to be tricked by imposters using the same brand name for their eateries.

Restaurant manager Salim Madinah said it has been discovered that several nasi kandar outlets have been using the Line Clear name here and in other states like Johor, leading customers to think they were eating the same popular nasi kandar cooked by LC.

Line Clear recently copyrighted its name to LC Restaurant after discovering that the brand name had been used by hundreds of other nasi kandar eateries nationwide.

But the patented name did not stop a nasi kandar operator in Ampang from using the name “LC Line Clear”. One of the original LC Restaurant owners, Lokman Madinah, said they are now considering legal action against that company.

“They also claimed that they are the descendents (of the original Line Clear founders). That saddened us because what they do may have an impact on us,” Lokman told a press conference at its Kampung Baru outlet here.

Salim told customers that there are only two original LC Restaurants in Malaysia ― the first outlet is located along Penang Road in Penang, while the second is in Kampung Baru here.

The outlet in Penang, however, is currently being run by different family members following a legal dispute that forced court intervention.

LC Restaurant claimed the original recipe of their famous nasi kandar can only be found in the Kampung Baru outlet.

“If you want the original recipe founded by SN Sekandar and SN Seeni Pakir, then you can only find it here. So to our customers we are not stopping you from going to other outlets.

“But we want to say the original Line Clear restaurants are only in Penang and Kampung Baru,” he said.
