KUALA LUMPUR, April 5 — The dining hall of Sekolah Menengah Sains (SMS) Tapah was ordered closed from 6pm yesterday due to cases of food poisoning at the school.
The Fully Residential and Excellence Schools Management Division (BPSBPSK), Ministry of Higher Education, said in a statement that the dining hall will be closed temporarily until the premises is thoroughly disinfected and insects are rid of to avoid the spread of infectious diseases.
BPSBPSK will work with the Perak State Education Department and monitor the school from time to time to ensure it complies with the shutdown order.
The statement also said the 762 students living in the boarding school will be temporarily supplied food cooked by the canteen operator of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Tapah.
In the incident on Saturday, 43 students suffered food poisoning after having ‘roti jala’ and chicken curry at the boarding school’s dining hall.
