KUALA LUMPUR, March 23 — Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) has delivered a “solid” performance to date thanks to its investments in capable leaders, its outgoing governor Tan Sri Dr Zeti Akhtar Aziz said today.
Because of that, she expressed her hope that the central bank’s board of directors will recommend the renewal of two of its current deputy governors whose terms will be expiring this year.
“We have invested in so much in them, they have such high capabilities as you can see, they internationally are known among their peers, all three of them.
“Our secretary to the board will process the recommendations certainly from me and I hope from our board also – because the three deputies are also members of the board – that they should be renewed,” she told reporters here.
BNM has three deputy governors: Datuk Muhammad Ibrahim, Datuk Nor Shamsiah Mohd Yunus and Dr Sukhdave Singh.
She said Sukhdave’s term, which expires next month, has already been renewed.
“There is succession planning and that is why the organisation is so solid.
“We invested in all of them massively and I don’t want to lose a single one of them,” she added.
She said BNM has put into place plans for successors for every level of senior officials, starting from the deputy governors, down to assistant governors, heads of departments, directors and deputy directors.
