PETALING JAYA, Feb 1 — Two robbers, armed with a hammer, threw chilli powder at employees of a goldsmith shop in an attempt to rob the store at Jalan 9A/13 Sungai Way here, today.
However, their attempt failed when one of the employees hit the security alarm, causing them to flee the scene empty handed.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Mohd Zani Che Din said there were four employees and four customers in the shop when the robbers rushed in at 3.15pm.
“The suspects, believed to be a man and a woman, were wearing full-face helmets when they rushed into the shop.
“The female suspect threw chilli powder towards the display rack, targeting at the employees behind it, but the chilli powder did not affect them as there was a glass barrier. At the same time, the man attempted to break the glass display racks using a hammer, but to no avail.
“That is when one of the employees of the shop activated the security alarm, and as soon as the alarm went off, the suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle,” he said.
Mohd Zani none of the employees or customers were injured.
“We are now investigating if this case is related to the robbery of a goldsmith shop in Seremban a few days ago, which more or less used the same modus operandi,” he said. — Bernama
