KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 1 — The government will ensure that all plans for the development and progress of the Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan federal territories are carried out inclusively.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said various programmes had been carried out, not only for economic development and the homeless but also for the convenience of people in the federal territories.

He said the programmes were included in business development initiatives and entrepreneurship courses to increase competitiveness, capacity and capability for those in need.

Tengku Adnan said this in his speech at the investiture ceremony of the federal territories awards, honours and medals by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, in conjunction with the 2016 Federal Territories Day at Istana Negara here today.

Armed Forces Chief, General Tan Sri Zulkifeli Mohd Zin headed the list of 322 recipients of awards and medals, in conjunction with Federal Territories Day today.

Meanwhile, Tengku Adnan said the operation to combat illegal activities, improve cleanliness, traffic congestion and public housing among others, were also being carried out with strategic partnership from 21 government agencies and nine non-governmental organisations (NGO).

“This is in line with our goal in ensuring the federal territories are cheerful with clean and beautiful surroundings, and also conducive for the people,” he said.

For the benefit of homeless people, Tengku Adnan said the ministry and Kuala Lumpur City Hall had developed two of three centres for the homeless where food would be provided by four NGOs every night.

On housing, he said 80,000 units under public housing were targeted to be built in the federal territories within the next five years. — Bernama
