PUTRAJAYA, Jan 27 ― Motorists on the Damansara Puchong Highway (LDP) and Sprint Highway will get a 60-sen and 20-sen toll discount respectively on February 8 in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.
Kumpulan Lingkaran Trans Kota Sdn Bhd (Litrak) Communications Department head Shah Rizal Mohamed Fawzi said the toll discounts, from 12am to 11.59pm, applied to all types of vehicles.
“This initiative is expected to benefit 424,000 LDP and Sprint Highway users with the total discount of RM202,000,” he told a press conference here today.
Litrak is the operator of the LDP and Sprint Highways.
Since 2010, a total of RM8.5 million subsidised toll rates were given to nearly 14 million users of both highways during festive seasons such as Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year and Christmas, he said.
In another development, Shah Rizal said the Sprint Highway would be fully using the electronic toll collection system beginning March 2 at noon.
It involves three toll plazas namely Pantai, Bukit Kiara and Penchala, Shah Rizal added.
He said toll payment on Sprint Highway using electronic cards had increased by 80 per cent last year compared to 65 per cent in 2012.
“We hope that the remaining 20 per cent consumers will soon make payment using Touch 'n Go or SmartTAG which will make travel even easier and faster.
“Based on studies, we found that the time taken by users to make payment using Touch ‘n Go and SmartTAG is between three and six seconds compared to 15 seconds using cash,” he said.
On LDP, Shah Rizal said Litrak aimed at implementing the electronic toll collection system in September. ― Bernama
