SHAH ALAM, Jan 18 — The Selangor government is working with the police to ensure “peace” in the state following increased concern over possible terrorist attacks by Islamic State (IS) militants, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohd Azmin Ali said today.

He said that the state is also focusing on education and moderation to curb any militant elements from sprouting up in the state.

“We are constantly in discussions with the police. We will continue to work with them to ensure peace is maintained in Selangor,” Azmin told reporters after attending the Selangor civil servants monthly assembly in Shah Alam today.

“It is not an easy thing to solve. It is an education process. We can do this through education in universities or even through religious classes,” he said.

Malaysian police were put on red alert following the bombings in Jakarta last week that involved at least seven blasts and left seven people dead.

Police last week also arrested four suspected IS militants including one allegedly on his way to commit a suicide bombing attack.

Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor revealed that militant groups were targeting locations such as the Kuala Lumpur city centre, Bukit Bintang, Publika, Solaris, Hartamas, Bangsar and The Curve in Petaling Jaya, although this was later disputed by the police.

The Jakarta blasts followed a suicide bombing in Istanbul, Turkey, on Tuesday that killed 10 people, all of whom were Germans, which officials reportedly blamed on the IS.
