KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s meeting with Christian leaders today was a follow up to last year’s cancelled Christmas hi-tea and not a meeting to discuss conversion laws or the National Security Council (NSC) bill, the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) said today.
CFM chairman Rev Dr Eu Hong Seng told Malay Mail Online that Najib initiated the meet because he was unable to meet the leaders for a planned Christmas hi-tea last year.
“The PM was unable to make it for the Christmas hi-tea so he invited us for a hi-tea today. It was just a short lunch,” Eu said.
Eu denied that the main agenda of the discussions were pertinent national issues, as claimed in a report by The Malaysian Insider earlier today.
“No, no such thing. It was just a normal chit chat, just a hi-tea,” Eu said when asked.
Conversion laws had come under public scrutiny again after the Court of Appeal recently upheld the unilateral conversion of two children of Hindu mom M Indira Gandhi by her divorced Muslim husband.
The NSC bill, which was passed in December last year, was criticised for giving the prime minister “too much power” to declare security areas and impose curfews.
