KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 24 ― The PKR-led Selangor government will decide on January 13 whether or not it will join Penang, Kedah, Johor and Kelantan in banning the sale of vaping devices and electronic cigarettes.

State health, welfare, women and family affairs executive council chairman Dr Daroyah Alwi said there will be a workshop on vape on January 11 and 13, after which, the state government is expected to make their stand, New Straits Times reported today.

She added that the state executive council was briefed by the Health Department on the matter and the most worrying aspect was the dangers of e-juice.

“There are many components that can be added into e-juices, even though the basic components of propylene glycol, glycerine, distilled water and flavour seemed “innocent”.

“There are also nicotine concentrate, which is addictive and additives which could be anything including drugs,” she said after a briefing with representatives from local councils licensing and enforcement departments, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council, the Selangor Mufti office, the state education department and state legal adviser.

She added that sharing vaping devices can also spread communicable diseases via saliva like herpes and hepatitis.
