KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 20 — Kelantan Mufti Datuk Mohamad Shukri Mohamad has urged the state authorities to take a firm stand in enforcing the vape ban in the state.
Mohamad Shukri said that though a fatwa against vaping has been declared, enforcement was needed to effectively snuff out the industry, Malay daily Sinar Harian reported today.
"Vape is banned under fatwa in this state but only local authorities have power over sales," he was quoted as saying.
"Previously cigarettes were banned but without enforcement, people are still using it. State authorities have to tighten enforcement as we can only issue fatwa."
In August, it was reported that the National Fatwa Council has declared that vaping is illegal for Muslims.
On Wednesday, the Kelantan state government had finalised its decision to ban vaping in the state, leaving store owners 14 days to vacate their premises.
