PUTRAJAYA, Dec 17 — A minister said today that he would push for the creation of a parliamentary select committee on science, technology and innovation (STI).

Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Madius Tangau also said the parliamentary select committee was one of the Bills considered by his ministry.

“We’ll push for it,” Madius told a press conference here after the Academy of Sciences Malaysia (ASM), an agency under the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (Mosti), released a report titled “Science Outlook: Action towards Vision”.

The ASM report called for a parliamentary select committee on STI, noting that the House of Representatives in the US has a science, space and technology committee with jurisdiction over energy research, development, and projects.

“Similarly, South Korea has about 90 laws for S&T developing and promotion, signifying that legislations are necessary to strengthen STI governance,” said the report.
