KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 16 — DNA belonging to slain Malaysian hostage Bernard Then has been sent to the Philippines for a match test after a headless body was recovered there, national police chief Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.

The Sarawak-born was taken hostage by southern Philippine-based Abu Sayyaf militants on May 14 while at a Sabah resort restaurant and reportedly beheaded on November 17, while Manila was hosting the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.

A decapitated head was later found in Sulu, suspected to belong to Then.

“As for the previous DNA check on the head, the police are still waiting for the results,” Khalid told reporters.

On a separate topic, he said the Malaysian police have recorded the statement of Swiss national Xavier Andre Justo in connection with 1Malaysia Development Berhad.

“The Thai authorities cooperated well and we were allowed to go in the Bangkok prison to recorded his (Justo) statement,” he said.

Khalid said the police will only decide the next course of action after going through the statement.

The IGP also said investigations on Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad over the latter’s remarks against Umno leaders were ongoing.
