KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has launched a multi-lingual online radio channel at macc.fm that will feature interviews with politicians and NGOs, and even poetry readings.
MACC deputy chief commissioner (Prevention) Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the pilot programme for the online radio channel in English, Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin had received over 5,000 hits.
“So that shows the eagerness of people to get more information on issues of corruption,” Mustafar told Malay Mail Online today.
Mustafar said the radio channel will feature interviews with people from various areas including the private sector, civil society, students, politicians and religious personalities as well as anti-graft public service announcements.
“Talkshows by personalities on issues of corruption, from the perspective of religion, community, culture, values and all that,” he added.
When asked if the government agency’s radio channel would host interviews with opposition politicians, Mustafar stressed that the MACC was independent.
“All kinds of views can be aired. I’m not saying we’ll go [to] one party—we’re inviting people to speak up,” he said.
The anti-graft agency official said the radio channel will run 24 hours a day and have around six hosts.
According to Mustafar, the type of music that macc.fm will play are songs with messages of patriotism, integrity and anti-corruption.
“Earth Song from Michael Jackson is good because we’re talking about integrity of the environment,” he said.
At the time of writing, an MACC officer was speaking on the radio channel about the MACC Act 2009 and powers of anti-graft officers. The music played this morning was mostly Malay songs, with some love songs.
