KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 8 — The seven policemen arrested in connection with the alleged abduction of an Iranian businessman last week will know their fate after the deputy public prosecutor decides on whether to prosecute them.

City deputy police chief Datuk Law Hong Soon said police had submitted their investigation papers to the DPP for the next course of action.

“Even if the DPP decides not to pursue a case, we will still carry out an internal investigation and if they are found guilty, they will face disciplinary action,” he said.

The seven were among 15 suspects picked up over the alleged abduction in Jalan Ampang Hilir at 6pm on November 23.

“Four men — one Iranian national and three Malaysians — were charged with abduction in Kuala Lumpur on Friday,” he said at the Kuala Lumpur contingent monthly assembly yesterday.

The accused were released on court bail.

Law said police were looking forward to a peaceful new year and were reflecting on  what happened this year to study how the force could improve their services.

“With the rallies that had taken place like Bersih 4, the red shirt rally as well as taxi rally, we need to look back and assess our performance so we can plan for next year,” he said.

He said the commercial crime department had launched 1,390 operations during which 1,461 people were arrested for various offences.

The narcotic department’s aggressive operations throughout the year also saw a 3.23 per cent reduction in the number of cases.

“This is due to the hard work put in by all officers throughout the year. We look forward to further reducing the numbers next year,” Law said.
