KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 — No timeframe has been set for the completion of the special task force investigations into the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, Putrajaya confirmed.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Nancy Shukri said in a written reply in Parliament that the special task force is still in the process of investigating and the probe will be completed once it has recorded the statements of all witnesses and collected relevant documents.
"Since this case involves many witnesses and documents including some that are abroad, there is no set timeframe for investigations to be completed.
"The results of the special taskforce's findings will be presented to the Attorney-General for further action," she said in reply to a question submitted by Jelebu MP Datuk Zainudin Ismail.
The special taskforce established by then Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail was thought to be disbanded after he was abruptly replaced ahead of his retirement on July 27, along with the transfers of investigators who were involved in the probe.
On October 8, however, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) under the new A-G Tan Sri Mohamad Apandi Ali clarified that the taskforce was not disbanded and the investigations not halted.
In March, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak directed the Public Accounts Committee and the Auditor-General to investigate 1MDB following allegations of mismanagement and impropriety linked to its RM42 billion debt.
It was later announced that a special taskforce comprising the AGC, the Royal Malaysia Police, Bank Negara Malaysia, and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission was also investigating the firm.
