GEORGE TOWN, Nov 29 — State Assemblyman for Tanjung Bungah, Teh Yee Cheu and State Exco for Public Works, Utilities and Transport Lim Hock Seng were defeated in the election for the Penang DAP committee.
Teh, who appeared to be controlling his emotion, said he respected the decision of the delegates who had voted and that he accepted the decision with an open heart.
“The delegates have made their choice and I respect the outcome of the election today,” he told reporters when approached after the announcement of the new line-up of the state party committee at the DAP Ordinary Convention, here today.
When asked whether his defeat in the election was due to his action in the State Legislative Assembly sitting recently, Teh, who only polled 190 out of the total of 760 votes, said he accepted the decision of the delegates.
On November 23, Teh decided to resign from the post of State DAP secretary after he supported a motion proposing that all sea reclamation projects for development be subjected to public hearing at the Penang State Assembly sitting recently.
Meanwhile, Bagan Ajam Assemblyman Lim Hock Seng, Sri Delima Assemblyman RSN Rayer, Komtar Assemblyman Teh Lai Heng and Penang City Council Member Harvindar Singh were also defeated in the election.
Lim only garnered 216 votes while Rayer received 225 votes, Teh 239 votes and Harvindar 147 votes in the election.
State Exco for Local Government, Traffic and Flood Mitigation, Chow Kon Yeow and State Exco for Urban and Rural Planning and Housing, Jagdeep Singh Deo retained their posts as state chairman and deputy chairman respectively after polling 654 votes and 537 votes.
However, Lim, Rayer, Gooi Seong Kin, Jeffrey Chew and Syerleena Abdul Rashid had been appointed into the new state committee for 2015 until 2017.
The chairman is empowered to appoint five members into the state committee.
