Security guard charged with murder of Penang schoolgirl

BALIK PULAU, Nov 6 ― A security guard was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with murdering a Form Five student last month.

No plea was recorded from Tarmizi Yaakob, 20, who was unrepresented, when the charge was read to him before Magistrate Nurulrasyidah Mohd Akit.

He allegedly killed Intan Suraya Mawardi, 17, at a house at Blok 5-1-18 Flat Bandar Baru Perda, Teluk Kumbar near here between 7.30am and 7.30pm on October 25.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the mandatory death sentence on conviction.

The court set Janaury 13 for re-mention; the prosecution was represented by deputy public prosecutor Shafiq Mahadi. ― Bernama
