KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 — Air quality throughout the country is generally good with most areas recording good and moderate Air Pollutants Index (API) readings as at 12 noon today.
According to the Department of Environment (DOE), 36 areas recorded moderate API, among them Larkin Lama, Muar, Pasir Gudang in Johor; Malacca City, Bukit Rambai in Malacca; Nilai, Port Dickson in Negri Sembilan; Seri Manjung in Perak; Universiti Sains Malaysia in Penang and Kuching in Sarawak.
Other areas were Banting, Port Klang, Shah Alam in Selangor; Batu Muda in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya.
Fifteen areas recorded good API, among them Alor Star, Langkawi in Kedah; Tanah Merah in Kelantan; Jerantut in Pahang; Kangar in Perlis; Perai in Penang; Keningau in Sabah as well as Labuan in Federal Territory.
An API reading of 0 to 50 indicates good air quality; 51 to 100, moderate; 101 to 200, unhealthy; 201 to 300, very unhealthy and above 300, hazardous.
