KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 — The Bangsar LRT station is now known as the “Bank Rakyat-Bangsar” station, after it was renamed as part of Prasarana Malaysia Bhd’s Station Naming Rights Programme.
Bank Rakyat chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal said the move was not only to strengthen the brand but also serves as part of the bank’s corporate social responsibility programme.
“It is also an initiative on the part of Bank Rakyat to encourage the use of public transport as an alternative to the use of cars, thus reducing traffic congestion,” he said today at the rebranded station’s unveiling.
When speaking to reporters, Abdul Aziz stopped short of revealing the exact cost of earning the naming rights, only saying that was “not less than RM10 million for five years.”
As part of the rebranding of the station, Bank Rakyat has prepared various facilities here including ATMs and cash deposit machines (CDMs).
The station is located just under one kilometre from Bank Rakyat’s headquarters in Brickfields.
This is the second station to be rebranded under the Station Naming Rights Programme by Prasarana, with last week seeing the Bukit Bintang monorail station renamed to AirAsia-Bukit Bintang.
Universiti LRT station is also scheduled to be rebranded later this month by developers Sueze Capital, and will be renamed the “KL Gateway-Universiti” station after the adjacent property development in Kampung Kerinchi.
Prasarana president and group CEO Datuk Azmi Abdul Aziz said today that the programme, which began last year, would boost non-fare revenue for the company which will be used to improve services.
“Revenue for this investment will be channelled back to improve further facilities at stations and organisation of programmes and activities to enrich the travelling experience of Rapid KL customers,” he said.
“More revenue would mean more programmes and activities for the commuters.”
He added that the three announced rebranding were the only ones confirmed so far, though there were other potential brands lined up and looking to collaborate with Prasarana.
