KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 8 — National laureate Datuk A. Samad Said denounced today posters of the “Himpunan Maruah Melayu” September 16 rally that depicts a figure with a keris and the words “Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku”, labelling it “cruel” and full of “evil intentions”.
The Malay writer and poet, who is also DAP member, said Malaysia was developed over almost six decades for unity, not division.
“We must look at this issue seriously. These posters are so cruel with such evil intentions,” Samad Said told a press conference at the DAP headquarters here today.
The keris featured in the poster for the coming rally this Malaysia Day, purportedly in response to the Bersih 4 rally, is a Malay dagger, while the phrase “Tanah Tumpahnya Darahku” means “I will die for this land”.
It is unknown who the organisers of the September 16 rally are, although it has received unofficial support from parts of Umno, including minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The police have barred the rally on security grounds.
