PUTRAJAYA, Aug 30 — The west and east coasts of Peninsular Malaysia are expected to experience moderate haze conditions in the next 24 to 48 hours, says Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

He said based on Hysplit satellite images acquired by the Meteorological Department, smoke and dust from hotspots in Sumatra were expected to move across Riau and the Straits of Malacca before heading towards the east coast in two days.

In a statement here today, he said the haze was also expected to occur in western and northern Sarawak.

This is because the Hysplit image also detected moderate smoke from hot spots in the middle, south and west Kalimantan which were expected to move to the west of Sarawak in the next 24 to 48 hours.

“Meanwhile, moderate smoke from hot spots in East Kalimantan is expected to move toward the South China Sea across northern Sarawak within the next 24 to 48 hours,” said Wan Junaidi. — Bernama
