PUTRAJAYA, Aug 19 ― The military is apolitical but duty-bound to serve the government of the day, former Defence Forces chief Tan Sri Mohamed Hashim Mohd Ali said today.

In a press conference for his book launch, Mohamed Hashim said that all militaries in the world follow the same convention.

“We are apolitical. We do not join any political parties or become politician,” he said.

“But we serve the government in power. That is very important for any army in the world.”

Mohamed Hashim earlier launched his book, Mission Accomplished: The Military Journey of General Tan Sri (Dr) Mohamed Hashim Bin Mohd Ali.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak was present to officiate the launch.

Putrajaya has alleged of a conspiracy to “criminalise” Najib through to allegations of corruption linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

An article carried by news portal Malaysiakini asserted that a high-powered meeting was held on July 27 and attended by the Inspector-General of Police, the Armed Forces chief, the MACC and former Attorney-General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail to discuss further action pursuant to investigations into 1MDB.
