KUALA LUMPUR, July 27 — The Edge Media Group filed today an application for a court review of the Home Ministry’s decision to suspend two of its newspapers for three months but have yet to be granted a hearing date.
The company said it was unable to provide a copy of its affidavit for public consumption until the case is heard.
“Given the urgency and public interest, we hope the Court will grant us a date very soon,” it said it a brief statement.
The Edge Media Group said it is represented by the legal firm Raja, Darryl & Loh.
The Home Ministry announced last Friday its decision to suspend the printing permits of The Edge Financial Daily and its weekly sister for three months — which takes effect today — over the reports published by the two newspapers on debt-riddled state investor 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
According to the ministry, The Edge’s reports could affect “public order”.
