GEORGE TOWN, July 27 — The 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal and the public uproar over the Goods and Services Tax (GST) will cost Barisan Nasional (BN) defeat if the 14th general election were to be held now, claims Lim Guan Eng.

Agreeing with Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s stand on the matter, Lim said that both issues are enough reason for voters to reject BN in the next national polls.

“I may not be in the same political camp as Muhyiddin but on this, I fully agree with him,” he said at a press conference at his office today.

“In fact, not only BN will lose but those that support it and 1MDB like PAS will also lose so this is a sign for PAS,” he added.

Yesterday, Muhyiddin reportedly that said the 1MDB controversy will cause BN to lose if the general election is held now.

He was quoted as saying in his winding speech at the Cheras UMNO division meeting on Sunday night that it would be a difficult uphill battle for BN but that there is still time to reverse the situation.

The Deputy Prime Minister also claimed he advised the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to quit as 1MDB chairman but his advice was ignored.

Lim said what Muhyiddin said showed the reality of the whole 1MDB controversy where even the Deputy Prime Minister’s advice was ignored and that not one person in the Cabinet understood the whole controversy.

Muhyiddin had claimed that he and all the other ministers were unaware of the “real facts” about 1MDB.

He was reported by news portal The Malaysian Insider as saying that he had to read The Edge business paper as he “found it difficult to understand what was going on with 1MDB”.

The Home Ministry, however, has suspended the printing permits of The Edge Weekly and The Edge Financial Daily for three months starting today, claiming that their 1MDB reports could affect “public order”.
