KUALA LUMPUR, June 9 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak said today he does not get any remuneration in his position as the chairman of 1Malaysia Development Berhad’s (1MDB) advisory board.

In a written parliamentary reply, Najib also revealed that the advisory board has so far met twice, but did not specify when or whether he had attended the meetings.

“The advisory board meeting has held two meetings and the chairman of the 1MDB advisory board is not paid any annual remuneration or takes any fee, gratuity or interest,” Najib said.

Najib said that in a five-year span from 2009, 1MDB’s board of directors however had 72 meetings altogether.

Najib who is also Finance Minister was replying to a question by Kampar MP Dr Ko Chung Sen who had asked him to state the number of meetings held by 1MDB’s board of directors in the last five years and the number of annual meetings attended by Najib himself, as well s how much he is paid as the advisory board’s chairman.

1MDB is currently under investigation by at least three federal agencies — including the Auditor-General, the Public Accounts Committee and Bank Negara Malaysia.

1MDB was incorporated in 2009, after the prime minister announced the decision to turn the Terengganu Investment Authority state fund into a federal agency.

Since then, 1MDB has been dogged by negative publicity over its finances and debt, and most recently cash flow problems that saw it struggle to meet a RM2 billion loan payment.
