KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 — Deputy Speaker Datuk Ronald Kiandee denied today Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s claim that Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia has quit as Dewan Rakyat Speaker, saying it was probably a “rumour” which surfaced because of the latter’s absence in the last Parliament sitting.
“These are probably rumours which came about because of Pandikar’s absence in Parliament the last session, he was on leave back then,.
“As far as I know, Pandikar is still to chair the Dewan Rakyat sitting this Monday as Speaker, there have been no changes,” he told Malay Mail Online when contacted.
Dr Mahathir claimed today that Pandikar Amin Mulia has quit as Dewan Rakyat Speaker and that his duties will be undertaken by his deputy.
“He (Pandikar) came to see me. He said he does not want to carry on, so now the speaker is his deputy,” The Malaysian Insider quoted Dr Mahathir as saying in an event in Ipoh.
Kiandee laughed off Dr Mahathir’s claim, saying that it was unlikely that Pandikar would do so.
“I am his deputy, I have no idea about this, rest assured he is still Speaker,” he added.
