KOTA KINABALU, April 14 ― A video of a punch-up among school girls allegedly at a secondary school near here has created uproar among viewers who said it was outrageous and embarrassing.
The 49-second video, which appears to have been taken using a mobile phone, shows a group of girls, some wearing sport shirts with “SMK Limbanak” printed on it, physically attacking each other while others cheered.
The video, posted on the “Penampang Bulletin” Facebook page has garnered more than 22,000 views in the four hours since it was posted this morning, with viewers commenting on the antics.
The beginning of the video started with one girl wearing a Red Crescent Society shirt punching another girl while another came to her defence. The fight soon escalated into a brawl as other girls joined in.
One Facebook user Abigail Eve said that regardless of whether it was a case of bullying or retaliation, violence was not the answer.
“This act needs to stop because it brings the name of the school and their families down. Girls shouldn't act this was. No one should,” she wrote.
SMK Limbanak, some 15km from the city in the Penampang district, is a co-ed school.
Sabah education department director Datuk Jame Alip said that the police have been notified of the incident.
“The matter is also being investigated by the police so I will wait for their report,” he said.
