KUALA LUMPUR, April 1 — Police will not apply to remand The Malaysian Insider chief executive Jahabar Sadiq and The Edge publisher Ho Kay Tat, TMI’s lawyer Syahredzan Johan said today.

According to the lawyer on Twitter, the duo will likely be released today after their statements are recorded.

“Been informed that they won’t apply for remand re Jahabar and Kay Tat,” Syahredzan wrote on the microblogging site.

“Their statements will be taken along with the IT Consultant. Should be out after that,” he said in another posting.

On Monday, three TMI editors were picked up by the police to assist in a sedition probe following a raid on the news portal’s office. The probe was over the portal’s recent report linking the hudud controversy to the Conference of Rulers.

The trio — managing editor Lionel Morais, Bahasa news editor Amin Iskandar and features and analysis editor, Zulkifli Sulong — were made to spend the night in lock-up at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

Yesterday, the police arrested Ho and Jahabar when the duo turned up at the police station to record their statements over the same article.

Although Lionel, Amin and Zulkifli were released last night as their remand orders were rejected by a magistrate, Ho and Jahabar were made to spend the night in lock-up.
